Oprah Winfrey is an incredible force of nature who epitomizes the entrepreneurial spirit. Which is why when she talks, we listen. I've used her wisdom to get me through some hard times. Every entrepreneur needs an Oprah. You need someone who reminds you why you are on this tiring, tumultuous, but incredibly rewarding journey.
Building a company takes a lot of work, determination, and willpower. When you're an entrepreneur you need all the help you can get. Half the battle is finding the courage to pursue your dreams, and actually believing you can do it. If you can't wrap your head around that than you will constantly be sabotaging yourself and getting in your own way.
The entrepreneurs who make it are the ones who persist anyway. I use this Oprah quote to guide me when I start to feel a negative way about my career and work ethic, and you should too.
"Every time you state what you want or believe, you're the first to hear it. It's a message to both you and others about what you think is possible. Don't put a ceiling on yourself."
Your determination will create your possibilities. So if you keep thinking you can't do something, chances are you won't. If you instead let yourself and others know you will do something, you are much more likely to do it.
Remind yourself of your goals by resiting them over and over.
Entrepreneurship can be incredibly overwhelming. When I'm overwhelmed I make a list. I remind myself of what I want, and what I need to do to get there.
Sometimes it's a small list of the immediate to-do items that I need to take care of. Other times it's a list of the larger goals I have, the vision I have for myself, the greater things I am working towards. Small picture and big picture lists are both ways you can tell yourself what you want. My lists always propel me forward and get me re-energized.
If you believe in yourself, others will too.
It's important that you tell yourself that you can accomplish your goals. Most entrepreneurs are providing products and services that are unique. While it can be daunting to put yourself on display, it's a huge part of entrepreneurship. You're always selling yourself and your company.
Confidence plays a big part in becoming a successful entrepreneur.
Imagine that you are pitching your idea to a handful of investors. To be successful you are going to need to be convincing, and confidence is very convincing.
If you're not sure of your idea, they may not want to get behind it. But if you show them the value you can provide, they will want to invest in you and your product.
Stay determined by letting yourself know you can do it. Write it down in a list, or say it to yourself in front of a mirror. Let yourself and others know what you want, and never smother your potential by putting a ceiling on yourself.
