How have your podcast listening habits changed over the past year? Back in the days when I had a morning commute, I'd make the most of my morning routine by listening to my favorite podcasts

Now that remote work is the norm, it's been a little harder to carve out the time to tune in, but I definitely find ways during my week (while I'm running errands, making dinner, etc). Since I'm still not attending live conferences (and going to very few in-person meetings) podcasts have become an essential and effective way for me to stay on top of the industry trends, headlines, and expert perspectives I might otherwise miss.

Over the past few years, I've experimented with dozens of marketing podcasts and streamlined my listening to include only the truly useful ones. These five have proven to be a lifeline during the pandemic as the world changed--and so have the needs of audiences.

This Old Marketing

For me, a list of content marketing podcasts has to start with This Old Marketing, a long-running show from the Content Marketing Institute (and for full transparency, this is my company's partner for the Women in Content Marketing Awards). Each episode features a fun and informative conversation between marketing experts Joe Pulizzi and Robert Rose, and recent topics have ranged from how marketers can navigate the coronavirus pandemic to media company merger news. New episodes are published every two weeks and tend to be roughly an hour, so this is a great choice for anyone looking for a deep dive into all things marketing.

Explicit Content Podcast

Okay, so the name sounds a little controversial, but the topics covered are certainly very thought-provoking and relevant to today's content marketing landscape. The Explicit Content Podcast features a rotating set of hosts and provides fascinating deep dives into marketing tactics and winning strategies for influencer marketing, creating content for TikTok, and more.

Copyblogger FM

Copyblogger is an established brand in the content marketing world, and the Copyblogger FM podcast is an extension of the expertise and content tips you can find on the website. The episodes are fairly short (usually around 30 minutes) but they tend to be very tactical and provide actionable advice about how to write better content, improve your email marketing strategy, and improve SEO for the content on your website.

Content Matters

This podcast is sponsored by Ingeniux, a content management system, so naturally, it focuses on web content management, as well as UX design and the tech behind publishing great content. Each episode features a guest expert and recent topics have included how to build a great content experience for your audience and the role that content can play in a business's revenue strategy. It offers valuable insight into this particular area of content marketing.

Marketing Over Coffee

While nothing can beat a great in-person coffee chat to talk shop with a colleague or friend, this podcast might be the next best thing. Each episode of Marketing Over Coffee is about 20 minutes, so you really could listen to it over a coffee break. Co-hosts John J. Wall and Christopher S. Penn interview a variety of guests each week and have casual conversations about everything from search marketing to offline marketing campaigns. The conversational nature of the show almost makes it a little easier to absorb the tips and tricks that each guest shares, but don't be afraid to actually take notes while listening.
