Flower shop owners, brace yourselves. Valentine's Day is two days away, and while some forward-thinking lovebirds have already purchased everything they need for February 14, expect plenty of last-minute gifts.
Approximately 23 percent of adults say they will purchase flowers or plants on Valentine' Day, according to the Society of American Florists. Those bouquets add up--last year, Americans spent nearly $19 billion on Valentine's Day, according to the National Retail Federation. History.com and content marketing agency Column Five decided to show Valentine's Day some love by rounding up some of the best facts and figures about the nearly 1,500-year old holiday. To no one's surprise, it's a great day for greeting card companies and chocolate shops.
