Portland, Oregon, America's hipster haven in the shadow of Mount Hood, made a strong appearance on this year's Inc. 5000 list of the fastest-growing private companies in the U.S. In total, 34 of the city's businesses made the list, several of which were repeat honorees from 2017's top 10. This year, the rankings included companies in fields ranging from live video software to IT staffing, and even one that once appeared on Shark Tank. Propeller is a consulting agency with offices in Portland and San Francisco, and is making its second consecutive appearance on the Inc. 5000 list. In addition to their regular work, consultants volunteer with local nonprofits through the company's Propeller Uplift Program.

For the third consecutive year, website developer and marketing consultancy GRAYBOX is appearing on the Inc. 5000. The company has doubled its headcount since 2014 (from 15 to 31), and was named one of Inc.'s Top Workplaces in 2017.

BahFed provides federal government clients with office supplies, IT products, and support. The company is veteran- and minority-owned, and is appearing for the third consecutive time on the Inc. 5000.

A platform that helps clients stream live interactive video from training, marketing, and other business events to viewers on websites and mobile apps, Brandlive has hosted more than 7,000 events to date. The company has a roster of high-profile clients that includes Adidas, GoPro, and Cabela's.

Adpearance, a digital marketing and sales company, gets more than half of its client base from the auto industry. The company affectionately refers to its employees as Nerds, and to its whole staff as the "NerdHerd."
5. O'Brien General Contracting & Design

O'Brien General Contracting & Design specializes in building breweries. There's plenty of that work to be had right in their backyard--the Portland Metro Area is home to more than 100 of them. The company also focuses on construction projects designed to withstand rough coastal climates.
4. Tender Loving Empire

True to its name, Tender Loving Empire is a local arts empire of sorts: It sells handmade products made by local independent artists, it's a record label and music store, and it has even released its own comic books. In 10 years of business, the company says, it has paid more than $2.5 million to the artists it showcases.
3. ProFocus Technology

ProFocus Technology, which specializes in IT contract staffing, consulting, and contract-to-hire, is not only a top Portland company on the Inc. 5000 this year, but it also ranks among the top 10 companies in Oregon and the top 20 human resources companies in the entire U.S.
2. Brazi Bites
2018 Inc. 5000 rank No. 219 Three-year growth 2,138% 2017 revenue $12.9M
Brazi Bites, a cheese-bread snack, got a jump-start from an appearance on Shark Tank, where the co-founders accepted a deal with Lori Greiner. Although that deal ultimately fell through, the publicity from the show helped Brazi Bites quickly become a huge seller at Whole Foods.

Headquartered in Portland's Central Eastside Industrial District, Cura Cannabis Solutions tops this year's list of the fastest-growing companies in Portland. The company sells cannabis oils to consumers and edibles in legal U.S. and international markets.
