These days, baby pictures and political rants might not be enough to keep users on Facebook, which is why the social media giant is launching a new games feature to its platform.

Instant Games, launched Tuesday and available on desktop, iOS, and Android, appears in Facebook's News Feed and can be sent to friends in Messenger. By using HTML5, the latest version of internet language HTML, Facebook is able to host games like Pac-Man and Words With Friends on its platform, eliminating the need for a download and creating a smooth user experience.

This is the social network's latest move to increase the amount of time users spend on the platform. According to Leo Olebe, Facebook's director of global games partnerships, 15 percent of users' time is spent on game-related activities. For the time being, the company says advertisements will not be served up with the games.
