A housekeeper found the designer in her home at about 10:20 a.m., The New York Daily News reports. Spade had hung herself, sources told the Daily News.
Spade leaves behind her husband, Andy Spade, and 13-year-old daughter Frances Beatrix Spade.
Her namesake business, Kate Spade New York, has more than 140 retail shops and around the U.S., and more than 175 elsewhere in the world.
