Everything's famously bigger in Texas. Its economy is the second-largest in the country, roughly equivalent to the size of Canada's economy. And while it's massive in the gas and oil industries, Texas's business prowess extends all the way to its fast-growing startups. Just consider this year's Inc. 5000 list of the 10 fastest-growing companies in San Antonio, which average more than 200 employees and $10 million in 2017 revenue.

Time to meet them:

The real estate group helps Texas veterans and active military members navigate the VA loan and military benefits processes while finding housing. Founder Levi Rodgers is a former Green Beret, and many of his 28 staffers have military backgrounds.

Vighter--pronounced like "Fighter"--helps connect physicians, nurses, and other medical staffers to jobs around the world. Clients include federal agencies like the FBI, Department of State, and Department of Defense.

8. Topbox Solutions

2018 Inc. 5000 rank No. 1914 Three-year growth 234% 2017 revenue $2.4M

Recruiters at this staffing firm connect workers to jobs in a few industries: IT, user experience design, and administrative systems for government agencies like the Department of Defense. Yes, you'll probably need a security clearance for that last one.

6. Alta Moda Salon

Owner and director Cynthia Garza started by working in her sister's hair salon, and now presides over her own 2,400 square foot space. Alta Moda is celebrating its 20th anniversary by growing faster than most startups--making the Inc. 5000 for the third time in five years.

5. Proscribe

2018 Inc. 5000 rank No. 1609 Three-year growth 289% 2017 revenue $16.9M

Most doctors probably don't love the data entry part of their job, as their other duties might have more urgency. Proscribe trains and deploys over 1,000 medical scribes to handle electronic health records--or EHRs, so doctors can focus on more pressing priorities.

4. Silotech Group

2018 Inc. 5000 rank No. 1287 Three-year growth 372% 2017 revenue $11.6M

It's a "small badass construction company," according to its About Us page. Gideon USA might not be able to call itself small for long, after more than tripling its employee headcount between 2014 and last year, from 14 to 53.

2. G2S

2018 Inc. 5000 rank No. 541 Three-year growth 927% 2017 revenue $14.9M

G2S stands for Global Government Solutions--which is a refreshingly self-explanatory name. The company provides resource consulting and strategy for the U.S. Army, Air Force, and Centers for Disease Control, among others.
