Spot On Sciences founder and CEO Jeanette Hill was spot-on at the North American finals of the Kauffman Foundation’s Get in the Ring startup competition--and her victory gave her $10,000 and a trip to the Netherlands to compete in the pitch contest's global finals.
Hill's Austin, Texas, startup has developed a simplified form of blood testing, which eliminates the need for needles or specialized training. Called HemaSpot, the product only requires two drops of blood from a fingertip and can stay stable at room temperature. (Traditional venipuncture needle testing requires the freezing of a larger sample.)
Entrepreneurs who compete in the Get in the Ring competition must pitch their company in a series of four 30-second intervals. And as Hill can now likely testify, the skills needed to succeed there can be applicable almost anywhere.
