Is your job making you feel habitually tired, mentally exhausted, and stressed all the time? You might be burnt out.
Burnout can drain your energy and make you feel lethargic, killing your productivity levels. This is bad news for entrepreneurs. Luckily, there's a way to prevent burnout and even negate its harmful effects. Below are my five favorite tips for banishing burnout forever...
If the thought of slowing down to speed up perplexes you, you're not alone. In our amped-up society, most of us reach for coffee or an energy drink when we crave rest rather than actually give our body what it needs. Meditation is a quick cure to combat lethargy, stress, and anxiety throughout the day. Pausing for just a few minutes lets our bodies relax and rebuild, leaving us more calm and focused–and better able to handle the task at hand.
Walking doesn't take a lot of effort or energy but has a significant effect on your health and well-being.
A study done by Cambridge University found that walking at a fast pace for just 20 minutes a day reduced premature death by a third. Aside from the long-term benefits, walking each day can increase energy levels, and walking outdoors can even make you happier. Since natural sunlight can improve your mental health, the combination of exercising and sunshine is a winning combination for a boost in stamina and a better mood.
3. Eat a Healthy Diet
What you put in your body directly affects the amount of energy you can exert. Fight mental fatigue by eating a healthy diet rich in good fats, which can be found in avocados, coconut oil, and unsalted butter from grass-fed cows. Keep your body hydrated by drinking plenty of water and occasionally sipping on coconut water, which is a natural source of electrolytes. Fortify your body with antioxidant packed foods, such as berries and spinach, and you'll be able to rid your system of the harmful free radicals that are born from stress and lead to serious health risks.
Want to combine all that goodness in one? Whip up a supercharged smoothie with one cup of coconut water, one cup of frozen berries, a handful of spinach, and one tablespoon of coconut oil.
4. Work Out
Exercise boosts endorphins, helps clear your mind, and gives you more energy. Any form of fitness will do, whether it's twenty minutes of HIIT or an hour-long spin class. Choose an activity that gets you sweating–but just as importantly, is also enjoyable and convenient.
If you've failed at making exercise part of your lifestyle in the past it was probably because you either didn't like it or it was inconvenient. Don't join a gym that is 20 minutes from your house or sign up for a bootcamp that meets in the morning if you rarely wake up before 9 a.m. Finding a way to exercise that works for your lifestyle is the key to making fitness a staple in your daily routine.
5. Celebrate Small Wins
Change your definition of what’s worth celebrating and you'll find you have a more positive frame of mind.
Your work life will always be filled with highs and lows–it's your attitude that determines how these swings of the pendulum will affect you. Sometimes a goal won't be met, but a project will be successful in another, unpredictable way. Don't let the loss deter you from recognizing the win. Acknowledging achievement when it's due, and finding small (but rewarding) ways to pat yourself on the back make the journey of entrepreneurship all the more worthwhile in the end.
