When I told my 10 year old daughter Kate I'd be interviewing Karina Garcia for this column, all I got back was, "OH. EM. GEE!!!"
Youtube Mega-Star Karina Garcia, otherwise known now as "The Queen of Slime" and "The Kylie (Jenner) of Slime," has built her empire on the slime movement she created among tweens and even adults. With a very popular Youtube channel of over 6 million followers and her own crafting brand, Craft City, it is safe to say that the 23-year-old shows no signs of slowing down.
It's hard to believe that Karina's success grew virtually overnight, but it did. She went from living in a mobile home to making six figures a month, after following the advice of her twin sister, Mayra, to start her own Youtube channel, just a little over two years ago. Since then, Karina has received over 860 million views on her channel, and has continued to grow her following with over 6 million fans, many of whom are obsessed with the slime trend (my daughter Kate included!)
Karina noticed after posting her first slime video, her fans were eager to learn more. She continued creating fun and wacky slimes with different textures and unusual additions, such as Cheetos and Starbursts, and taught others how to make it themselves. After receiving raving reviews, she decided to partner with Brandable to create her own crafting brand, Craft City.
The brand recently launched and Karina released her Craft City Make-Your-Own Slime Kit in early October of this year. The kit provides the basics for crafters to make 6 to 8 slime creations at home, including color tablets and glitter, but it was important to Karina that she created a slime kit where everyone could add-in their own additions.
"With this kit, we wanted to encourage everyone to craft on their own terms and make every creation uniquely you," says Garcia.
Even with all of the slime and crafting success, Karina is hungry for more. She loves to design, style, keep up with the latest trends, and spend quality time with her family. She is proof of the undeniable trend towards YouTube influencers of all ages and from all backgrounds, cashing in on their followers and influence.
