Too many people have trouble falling asleep at night and as a result do not feel energized when they wake up in the morning. The snooze button is our friend to try to get just a few more minutes of sleep. But it never seems like enough and more than 1 out every 3 people do not get enough sleep, which in turn impacts their productivity.

The good news is that new research has found an easy routine to help you fall asleep faster and wake up more refreshed. One of the primary reasons people toss and turn in bed is that they are worrying about the day to come. There never seems to be enough time to get everything done. This routine to fall asleep faster helps to address this problem.

The trick is to spend 5 minutes writing before you go to bed. This will help you get these worries out of your mind so you can relax. Get a journal that you can write in every night to make this part of your routine. The researchers also determined that what you write about plays a role in how quickly you fall asleep.

They found that it is more beneficial to write a to-do list for the day to come than it is to write about what you have already done. Participants fell asleep much faster when they wrote about what they had to do the next day compared to those who wrote about work they had already completed. Interestingly, the more specific the to-do list the quicker people fell asleep.

This suggests that getting the list on paper will get it out of your head. And when it's out of your head you will feel better and sleep better.
