Welcome to the 140th episode of the Inc. Uncensored podcast, hosted by Inc. editor James Ledbetter.

This week, staff writer Zoë Henry discusses what happens when retailers shrink their physical spaces in an effort to recoup funds. Fast-growing startups like WeWork have been purchasing the empty storefronts and converting them into headquarters, but what else might they be used for?

Then, reporter Emily Canal explores the startups that are tackling the opioid crisis. We look at companies like SPR Therapeutics, which tries to eliminate the need for prescription opioids, and Biobot Analytics, which examines sewer-water samples to better identify communities experiencing opioid addiction issues.

Lastly, executive director of editorial Jon Fine discusses Memphis Meats, the startup that's creating lab-grown chicken and beef. The co-founder Uma Valeti is a trained cardiologist who worked with stem cells at the Mayo Clinic lab - where he got the idea for his company.
