Amazon Prime Day has become a hugely successful promotion for retailers. It's so big that competitors tag along with their own specials.
But why be satisfied with the advertised discounts and cut prices? Here are some tips on extra discounts and actual shopping cash at Amazon.
$10 for Amazon app
If you are scouting for Prime Day specials, you want the Amazon smartphone app. There are sneak peak deals that will give you advanced notice of what's coming up.
But there's another reason as well. When you go to the related specials on Amazon.com and you download and sign into the Amazon app for the first time, you get $10 to spend.
$5 to install Amazon Assistant
If you're not hovering over the Amazon app to watch for specials but are sitting at a desktop, Amazon Assistant is a browser-based tool that can let you compare products, get order updates, and receive notifications of deals, including Prime specials.
Install the software for the first time and you get an extra $5 off your Prime Day order of $25 or more.
Another $5 for Amazon app camera features
You got $10 to install the company's app. Now you can get $5 off specific Prime Day deals when you use the camera features, including image search, augmented reality, and barcode scanner. The eligible deals will change every six hours.
Whole Foods goodies
Amazon's purchase of Whole Foods opens new areas of savings. The retailer wants to get people to use their Prime accounts at the stores because it means even more data on customers.
To that end, they're willing to spend money. You'll need to have the Whole Foods app connected to your Prime account. Between July 11 and July 17, if you make a purchase of at least $10 and use the app or your mobile number (which you'll need to connect to the app) at checkout, you get $10 to spend on Prime Day.
If you have the Amazon Rewards Visa card and use it to pay for items from Whole Foods between July 14 and July 17, you get 10 percent back on up to $400 in total purchases. (You'll need to have the card physically on hand.)
If you haven't tried grocery delivery from Whole Foods before and you have a Prime account, shop before July 17, have the items delivery, get $10 off the order, and get an additional $10 toward a future order.
