As we start 2017 if you want to do better than you did in 2016, then you need to do something different. To do the same things and expect different things is one of the definitions of madness.

Here are 7 simple habits that you can look to adopt which will help make 2017 better than 2016.

Drop Negative People

We've all got at least one person in our lives who can spot the negatives in any situation. For example, if you win the lottery, they will be warning you about how much tax you might have to pay. These kinds of people can suck the joy out of any situation or opportunity.
Life's too short to focus on the negative.
Don't spend time with people who pull you down, criticize you, undermine your confidence, or just bring a negative attitude.

Spend time with those who energize you, those who see possibility and encourage you to take on new challenges or to pursue your dreams.

Spend Less Time On Social Media

Facebook and Twitter etc., can be time thieves. It's great to be connected, in contact, but everything in moderation. Research shows that people are spending on average nearly 2hrs per day on Social Media.

If you just cut that in half that would give you 365hrs of extra time, imagine what you could do with that. Learn a new skill, to speak a new language, or to play an instrument.

Sleep Better

Resolve to get 30 minutes more sleep per day; it will help to improve your mood, increase your attention, you're creativity and even your metabolism. The first time I was offered this advice I thought who has an extra 30 minutes to spend sleeping, but it's all a question of prioritizing. When you look at the benefits of the extra sleep, it's should certainly be a higher priority than watching the end of a game, a film or even your favourite TV show, and you can always record them.

Be Present

Multitasking is a growing epidemic. I sometimes think people don't feel like they're are being effective or efficient unless they are doing 2-3 things at once. This can stop us from being present and giving people our full attention, which can impact the quality of the meeting and even the relationship. Take the time to be present. Actively listen, pay attention show people that you respect them and the time that you are spending with them.

Let Go of The Past

We can't change the past, but we can shape the future. Learn from your mistakes, but don't let them hold you back by dwelling on them for too long.

Start Something Bold And New

Every life needs a bit of excitement or adventure so commit to starting something new, be bold, challenge yourself. Three years ago I decided to take up writing, and now I have written three books, over 1000 articles, and it has reshaped my career.

Learn To Say No More Often

Saying no is one of the hardest lessons to learn for many people, but if you don't say no to the things that you don't want to do, or that are not a priority, it will make it hard to say yes to the opportunities that you do want. There are constant demands for our time, and if days were 48 hours long, I am sure it would be possible to fill them completely too.

Every successful person has the same 24 her a day that every unsuccessful person has; they are just better at managing them and prioritizing what's important for them.

If you want to have a great 2017 then look to develop these habits as they will keep you more positive, and give you the time and energy to achieve amazing things.
