The holiday season is in full gear. If you're one of the many last-minute shoppers scrambling to find that perfect token of appreciation for your family, friends, and employees, the good news is that the gifts don't have to be terribly expensive. (The best ones usually aren't.)
This year, Inc. asked eight entrepreneurs to each reveal their all-time favorite gift--and why it's so special to them. If you're still struggling what to get for your loved ones, perhaps you'll be inspired.
1. Justin Wolvertoon, founder of Halo Top Creamery
"I was raised in a military family and constantly moved as a kid. I had to go to new schools, make new friends, and always try to fit in again. One constant -- of all things -- was my Calvin & Hobbes books. I loved those books but lost them as I grew up.
"Two Christmases ago, my friends teamed up and bought me the complete Calvin & Hobbes anthology. They brought it to my house, and I had no idea they were even giving me a Christmas present. While the gift itself was absolutely awesome, it was my all-time favorite because they'd remembered something so important to me that I'd only mentioned in passing."
2. Whitney Wolfe, founder of Bumble
"On the way to my wedding this year, my soon-to-be mother-in-law gave me a vintage necklace that belonged to her mother, whom they called Queen P. It's the most beautiful bee pendant necklace that I've ever seen. It was so incredibly thoughtful and it is one of my most special things."
3. Mark Cuban, Shark Tank investor and owner of the NBA's Dallas Mavericks
"A picture of an essay my then 7-year-old son wrote, saying I was his hero and that when he grew up he wanted to be an entrepreneur like me."
4. Biz Stone, co-founder of Twitter
"My favorite gift of all time is a toy pick-up truck that my preschool teachers at the community center gave me. It was blue and made of real metal. I don't know why it's my favorite. Perhaps because I grew up poor and usually got socks or some other necessity for gifts. I played with it constantly. In high school, I coveted a real version so I could expand my lawn mowing business but never did get one. I still want to get a blue pick-up truck but cannot justify having one. (Unless I switch from tech back to mowing lawns!)"
5. Billie Whitehouse, founder of WearableX
"My all time favorite gift to give and receive is always an experience tied to something you can take away with you. The best one I received was a retreat weekend upstate. Loads of yoga, amazing people and conversation, nature, and healthy food! It's the gift that keeps on giving."
6. John Tabis, co-founder of the Bouqs Company
"I received this T. rex head from my pal Todd at Safire Partners. He gives them as holiday gifts to various founders annually. It keeps me creative, and accountable, daily. I added that hat -- makes him super cool!"
7. Juan Pablo Montúfar, co-founder of the Bouqs Company
"The best gift I've ever received was an old turntable and Ike & Tina Turner's Workin' Together album on vinyl, given to me by my wife (then girlfriend). It changed my life forever; it became my favorite hobby and I've been collecting records ever since. I think it's fair to say that I have the best record collection of blues-soul-rock in Ecuador."
8. Sarah Kauss, founder of S'well
"Of course, I do love to gift S'well bottles. My other favorite is a journal. I keep a daily journal and have found it to be one of my most useful habits to keep me mindful in both my personal life and in business. I love to share a journal with others to encourage them on their own journey."
