On Monday, Verizon suffered a massive outage that affected customers across the country. While it's not clear exactly how many customers were without service, Verizon has more than 114 million customers in the U.S.
The outage began mid-morning, according to the website DownDetector.com, which measures service outages based on customer reports. At one point, there were more than 100,000 reports on the site.
As a Verizon customer, I can attest that it was a pain. For most of the day, the signal indicator on my iPhone simply said "SOS." At times, there was a small satellite icon, indicating that I could take advantage of Apple's Emergency SOS by satellite service. Thankfully, I didn't have any kind of emergency, but that doesn't change the fact that not having wireless service is both inconvenient and obnoxious.
