Sure, you all know the health benefits to getting a good night's rest and the correlation between sleep and heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, and longevity. There is also evidence sleep improves your mood, facilitates weight management, and enables you to focus more.

Did you also know that sleep could be the most productive hours of your day?

That's right. You can make your sleep work for you. As a life coach, I teach my clients to use sleep to their advantage with these simple steps. The process is called Sleep Work and was inspired by my teachers, Ron and Mary Hulnick. Not only will you get profound answers to drive success. You will also get an excuse to start sleeping more to get all those health benefits too. What could be better than that?

1. Determine what you want to solve.

Would you like some direction on your next big hire? Are you trying to make a decision about selling your business? You can pick anything that is weighing on your mind, and soul.

2. Set an intention.

When you go to sleep, ask the universe to give you an answer in a sign you can recognize. It is important to include "a sign you can recognize." The universe gives us information all the time and we may miss it when it is not clear to us. Be sure to ask for clarity. An example is "Dear Universe, please show me who I should hire with a clear sign I can recognize."

3. Sleep soundly knowing the One Mind, or collective consciousness, is working for you.

New York Times best-selling author Larry Dossey says "all individual minds are part of an infinite, collective dimension of consciousness he calls the One Mind." Sleeping is one way to access this universal knowledge. Read Dossey's One Mind to learn more about the collective consciousness.

4. Look for the signs.

The answer may be with you right when you wake up. You may have a vivid dream that once interpreted has an answer for you. Keep a journal by the bed to record your dream before you get up. It is as if your mind is an Etch-a-Sketch that gets shaken up and erased the moment you put your foot on the floor. Learn more about your dreams reading The Wisdom of Your Dreams by Jeremy Taylor.

You may see or feel something through the course of the day or that week. Be confident the answer will come to you. If you feel as if you missed the sign, since sleep is something (hopefully!) you do regularly, set the intention again.

5. Practice. Practice. Practice.

The more you practice, the more comfortable you'll get with the process. The more you'll recognize the answers that are right in front of you. The more answers you get, the more clarity you'll have. The good news is you can try this every night, assuming, of course, you sleep that often.

It really can be that simple. By letting your sleep work for you, you will get more clarity, and ultimately more success, in your life. Not to mention the perfect excuse to sleep more and get all those health benefits too. Don't believe me because I am telling you this. Believe me because you try it and it works for you.
