So you've got a great app that's available on the market but you're disappointed in the lackluster response to it? Don't worry, you have options.

Here are several ways to get more installs for your for your app.

1. Run Facebook Ads

If you want people to know about your app, you might just have to advertise it.

Sure, advertising costs money, but there are several affordable online advertising options.

Even better: online advertising gives mobile users a direct link to install your app. So users can add it to their existing portfolio of apps with just a couple of taps.

One of the cheapest ways to advertise your app is on Facebook. Depending on the click-through rate (CTR), you might get away with forking over just a few pennies per install. By any measurement, that's an affordable advertising option.

2. Run Instagram Ads

Instagram is Facebook's little brother. That's because Facebook owns Instagram.

So if you want to consolidate your advertising to one primary channel while still expanding your reach to potentially millions of people, consider running Instagram ads in addition to Facebook ads.

Keep in mind that, unlike Facebook, Instagram is a strictly mobile app. Sure, you can view Instagram pics on a desktop and even embed them on a web page. But let's not kid ourselves: Instagram is for mobile users.

That's why it's such a great idea to advertise your app on Instagram. You know you're reaching people who are already on a mobile device.

3. Use Google AdWords

You can also use Google AdWords to run ads promoting your app.

In all likelihood, you'll find that AdWords is a bit pricier than the other options. However, the extended reach might be worth the additional spend.

AdWords also gives you the option to set up a campaign that's tailor-fit to app installs. Be sure to do that so you can maximize your return on investment.

4. Get Some PR Hits

If you want to generate buzz about your app, get some PR hits.

A PR hit is when your app is mentioned in a major publication, such as a print publication or a news website.

It's beyond the scope of this article to cover how to get mentioned in major publications. Suffice it to say that there are numerous options available to you.

5. Advertise It to Your Email Distribution List

If you've been doing this digital marketing thing for a while, then the odds are pretty good that you've got an email distribution list. Advertise your app to the people on your list.

Think about it: the reason you have the list is to promote your brand and what it's offering. So why wouldn't you use it to promote your app?

6. Issue Press Releases

A press release is different than a PR hit in that you write a "news" article about your brand and distribute it to various news wire services. It's a great way to toot your own horn in journalistic format.

It's also a great way to get a PR hit. Sometimes, journalists will see your news release and reach out to you for an interview.

7. Market Your App Before You Launch It

Whet people's appetites for your app by marketing it before you even launch it.

It's a basic principle of human nature that people often want what they can't have. Certainly, they can't have your app if it isn't available yet.

Create a great marketing campaign that teases the best features of your app before it's available. You'll have people waiting with bated breath for the launch date.

8. Get Reviewed

You want more app installs? Get positive reviews.

KISSMetrics has put together a list of five ways to get reviews for your app. If you're struggling for positive reviews, start there.

9. Add a Social Component

Make it easy for news about your app to spread like wildfire across social media by adding a social component to it.

Think about this: where do you think Instagram would be today if it didn't integrate with other social networks? It's tough to say for sure, but it's possible you would never have heard of it.

10. Practice Good Karma

If you want people to spread the word about your app, live by example and spread the word about other great apps that you've installed and use regularly.

You'll find that the laws of the universe work marvelously in favor of people who help others.

11. Advertise on

Somebody came up with a clever way to make money online: register the domain name and let app developers advertise their apps on it.

As of now, if you Google "great apps," shows up in second position in the organic results.

For just $95 per year, you can list your app on the site. That's assuming that it meets the criteria for listing, of course.

12. Create a Video Walk-Through

Another excellent way to promote your app at little expense is to simply create a video walk-through of the app and upload it to YouTube.

Be sure to tag all the right keywords before you finish the upload. Also, add the most important keywords to both the title and the description.

Remember, YouTube is the second most popular search engine in the world behind its owner, Google. So if you want people to learn about your app based on a keyword search, YouTube can certainly help with that.

Wrapping It Up

You don't have to just sit around and hope that people will find your app and install it. You can take steps to promote it online. The good news is that many of those efforts cost very little, while some cost nothing at all.

Good luck!
