It’s the second week of the new year, and you’ve already had trouble keeping your New Year’s Resolution. It makes you feel like a failure, even if you haven’t totally failed. Do not despair! You have lots of good company. 80% of people don’t make it to February with their resolutions. By the end of the year, 92% have given up. Like I said, lots of good company!

There’s no need to panic. If you’re succeeding even moderately, you’re way ahead of the game. If you’ve totally fallen off the wagon, it’s not too late to rededicate yourself and turn it around. You can still do it! I’ve even written columns about it!

If you have reasonable goals and realistic action plans, read these quotes to rev your engine and attack your resolution with renewed vigor:

1. “For eleven months and maybe about twenty days each year, we concentrate upon the shortcomings of others, but for a few days at the turn of New Year, we look at our own. It is a good habit.” - Arthur H. Sulzberger

2. “It is never too late to be what you might have been.” -; George Eliot

3. “How the New Year will turn out is entirely up to you. The attitude you bring, the determination you have, the goals you set all will result in the type of year that you will have. So let your attitude be positive, your determination be strong!” - Theodore W. Higginsworth

4. “I think in terms of the day’s resolutions, not the year’s.” - Henry Moore

6. “With this morning’s sunrise comes a day of things that have never been.” ? Toni Sorenson

7. “Make New Year’s goals. Write them down. Visualize your success. Take action. Be determined. Do not give up when faced with obstacles. Make perseverance your word for the year.” - Kate Summers

8. “It doesn’t matter where you came from. All that matters is where you are going.” - Brian Tracy

17. “We spend January 1st walking through our lives, room by room, drawing up a list of work to be done, cracks to be patched. Maybe this year, to balance the list, we ought to walk through the rooms of our lives, not looking for flaws, but for potential.” ? Ellen Goodman
