There once was a time not too long ago when it took years--in some cases nearly a century--for companies to get to a $1 billion valuation. Many of today's startups just can't relate. For example, YouTube hit the $1 billion valuation mark after only one year. In comparison, Prada founder Mario Prada passed away long before his fashion company reached that same financial milestone--98 years after he started the company 1913.
