"A Good Word About Consultants" (January) was an article I savored. I am not dissimilar to Mr. Ekstein in that I, too, am the president of a small consulting firm and have seldom conformed to the stereotypical vision of a management consultant -- in my case, because I am black. I relished the descriptions of large consulting firms and of their typical consultants -- both in their appearance and in their attitudes.

It also pleases me to see consultants characterized as developers of new structures for growing companies, rather than to read yet another article implying that troubleshooting and failing businesses are our only areas of real capability.
