It surprises me that INC., "The Magazine for Growing Companies," would publish "Now I Know My ABCs" (Washington, April).
The American Business Conference's political influence in Washington has come from the direct efforts of member chief executive officers discussing, on Capitol Hill, the issues that affect growing companies.
From 1978 to 1983, ABC companies' combined sales grew 18.4%, while the U.S. economy grew at 7.1%. ABC companies created new jobs 10 times as fast as did the economy.
It is not simple to measure what makes a good growth company, but the ABC CEOs, Albertine, and Levitt have brought growth issues to the policymaking levels of government. We are glad we participated instead of complaining on the sideline.
