Thanks to all those readers who felt sympathy when they read in the August issue that I'd missed the annual Inc. 500 conference because of my poor, aching back. Since the item appeared, I've received dozens of calls, letters, and packages from fellow backache sufferers offering booklets on back pain, videos on massage, and plenty of free medical advice. One caller, a Dr. Norwood of Mineral Wells, Tex., had warned me a year ago about potential back problems after he saw me "slouching" in my FYI photo. Several readers have sent cushions designed to ease back strain at the office. Well, I'm pleased to report that my back is now just fine. I am a little worried, however, that I may miss next year's conference because of concern about forthcoming college-tuition bills. . . .
