Pow, shorthand for powder, is the deep, fluffy stuff skiers crave. It's also difficult to pinpoint in the Rockies, given the topography and winds. In 2010, meteorologist Joel Gratz left a steady job at an insurance outfit to launch OpenSnow, a $19 annual subscription snow-finding app. What started as an email blast is now a profitable business that reached two million unique users last year.
