March 13, 2007 -- Hostway, a Chicago-based Web-hosting and domain-name registration company, is offering to new ways for small businesses to protect themselves from phishers, identity thieves, and scam artists, the company said Tuesday.

WhoisProtector Lite masks the private contact information of domain owners, leaving only administrative and technical contact e-mail addresses listed in the public Whois database, the company said. At the same time, DomainGuard password-protects domain name settings so only the original owner can authorize changes, the company said.

Hostway also recently reduced the price of domain name registration or transfers to just $3.95 a year, the company said.
