Fewer jobs were posted in the help-wanted sections of major newspapers nationwide in May, continuing a three-month decline, the Conference Board reported Thursday.

Despite corresponding gains in online job ads, the downturn suggests employment will ease this summer, said Ken Goldstein, a labor economist with the New York-based private research group.

Currently, businesses are creating about 120,000 new jobs every month. Goldstein said he expects that pace to drop by as much as 20,000 in the months ahead.

That's more than twice the increase in new job ads posted online in May, the report showed.
