On the second anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, the Small Business Administration and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce announced a partnership aimed at improving disaster response for small businesses.

As part of the effort, the SBA and local chambers will share information on the impact and needs of smaller businesses in the wake of a major disaster, officials said.

The two groups will also collaborate on research and analysis on economic recovery, while timely information on federal disaster programs will be disseminated through the chamber's network of local small-business owners.

The partnership is aimed at creating a "larger corps of potential responders," SBA Administrator Steven Preston said in a statement.
