A couple weeks ago, McDonald's revealed that, beginning on January 30, McDonald's customers will be able to order Cheesy Bacon Fries. But that wasn't all....
The company will also introduce two more bacon-centric items to its menu: a Big Mac Bacon burger and a Quarter Pounder Bacon burger. According to a McDonald's announcement, bacon is hot--earning 17,000 mentions a day on U.S. online platforms--and the company wants to get on board the trend.
However, just when you didn't think McDonald's could top its bacon announcement, the company has done just that.
For just one hour on Tuesday, January 29--from 4 to 5 p.m.--McDonald's is having its very first "Bacon Hour." The idea is sort of like a happy hour, but during McDonald's Bacon Hour, you'll be able to get a free side order of thick-cut, Applewood-smoked bacon to go along with anything you purchase.
Want a free side of bacon to go with your French fries? No problem. With your chocolate shake? Sure. With your salad? Of course.
With bacon coming to the Classics, anything is possible. Even...FREE bacon. Introducing...Bacon Hour--FREE bacon on the side with ANY menu item for one full hour on January 29th, 4-5pm (local time) at part. restaurants. #BaconHour pic.twitter.com/BfZ5pRKVhu-- McDonald's (@McDonalds) January 23, 2019
Says Chef Michael Haracz, McDonald's manager of culinary innovation:
"When we said there's no such thing as too much bacon, we weren't kidding. January 29, we'll be upping the bacon ante--the bac-ante, if you will--and celebrating this glorious food favorite like never before."
From a marketing perspective, this is pure genius. Not only will it quite literally create a feeding frenzy during the Bacon Hour, it will shine a very bright spotlight on the three new bacon-centric products that are being introduced at the end of the month. There's definitely a lesson here for any company that markets and sells products.
So, bacon lovers unite. Remember: This is a one-shot, one-day, one-Bacon-Hour deal--at least for now. Who knows? Maybe this will become a regular thing. We can only hope.
