By most every measure, Elon Musk is a tremendous success. At only 45 years old, Musk is the co-founder and CEO of Tesla Inc., founder and CEO of SpaceX, and a self-made billionaire. While we might laud this kind of extreme success to be very far removed from our daily lives, could it be that Musk actually has a lot more in common with every one of us than we think?

Frankly, the answer is yes.

Although Musk possesses an extraordinary capacity for creativity, innovation, and simply getting things done--it's not that out of reach for every single one of us to access his level of competency. In fact, if we put our minds to it, it could very well be that we're able to accomplish every bit as much as him.

But what's the one thing Musk does every day that serves as the secret to his success? Work, it turns out.

In an interview with Steve Jurvetson, Musk shares that the one singular thing he never fails to do a day--no matter what day of the week it may be--is work. A lot. In fact, the groundbreaking entrepreneur shared that he has worked up to 100 hours a week to achieve his goals. Considering that an average workweek consists of 40 hours a week, that works out to 2.5 times what the average person works.

"For a while there I was just doing constant 100 hour weeks [in order to be the CEO of both Tesla Motors and SpaceX], and that's definitely wearing," Musk shared in the interview. He goes on to say that "now I'm kind of in the 80 to 90 [hours per week range], which is more manageable. But if you divide that by two it's certainly, you know, maybe 45 hours per company, which is not much if you have a lot of things going on."

Ultimately, the key to success is simply to put in a little bit of work--or a lot, depending on your schedule and obligations--every single day. Keep working, and there's no reason you won't achieve success as well.
