Most freight-forwarding companies predate the internet. That gives five-year-old Flexport a leg up. The startup lets clients track their cargo online in real time--a fairly new concept for the industry. Thousands of Amazon merchants use the startup to move their goods, as do Warby Parker and sneaker maker Allbirds. In all, the company transports around 100,000 shipping containers each year, many of them between China and California. Flexport has pulled in more than $300 million in funding, and in 2017, it booked $224.9 million in revenue, helping it earn the No. 8 spot* on this year’s Inc. 500 list.
*Due to a clerical error, Flexport was listed incorrectly in the print version of the 2018 Inc. 500. The company is tied at No. 8 with GForce Life Sciences.
