What is the best advice for first-time entrepreneurs? originally appeared on Quora: the place to gain and share knowledge, empowering people to learn from others and better understand the world.
It's all about product.
Today, the innovation needed to move the world is becoming thinner and thinner. I call this phenomenon "Thin Tech," and it's making it easier than ever to change the world by shipping the right product or application. Entrepreneurs today have so much more at their disposal than I had when I started my first software company, Avamar.
They have access to an incredible range of open source technologies they can use to build their products. They can scale their applications in the cloud by the drip instead of having to invest in and manage physical systems in a datacenter. They can launch their apps in app stores that already reach billions of users, like the Apple or Android app stores. And they can leverage AI services--deep learning, machine learning, natural language processing, etc.--via open-source frameworks or in any public cloud.
With this incredible range of assets at their disposal, entrepreneurs really need to focus on the quality of their products and how they intertwine with their business strategy. In my book, , I encourage entrepreneurs to think holistically about how their product enables their business model and go-to-market strategy.
Great products make everything else easier. With a great product, it's easier to raise money, hire a team, grow revenue, and build a business. So it's important to get the product right.
