What should be my first step for becoming an entrepreneur? originally appeared on Quora: the place to gain and share knowledge, empowering people to learn from others and better understand the world.

Answer by Yoshito Hori, President, GLOBIS University, on Quora:

You need to believe in your own potential. You need a strong mindset that nothing is impossible. There are two main factors for becoming an entrepreneur:

  1. Skills and knowledge
  2. Entrepreneurial mindset

Skills and knowledge can be obtained in many ways. You can get on-the-job training by working or off-the-job training by studying in an MBA program. This isn't enough on its own. In order to become an entrepreneur, you need entrepreneurial spirit, which comes from believing in your own potential.

If you think you can't do something or feel constrained by limitations, you'll hesitate to take risks. If you believe in unlimited potential, however, you'll be able to overcome any obstacle. You'll also need to know what you want to do with that spirit, of course.

You need to be strongly driven by your own vision and purpose of living - this is called kokorozashi in Japanese. If you know what you were born from and what you want to achieve, this will become a strong driving force. With this mindset, you can achieve anything. All that's left is to combine that with your business skills from your MBA and write up a business plan.
