Employers are slowly but surely adapting to the needs and interests of a younger workforce, and becoming increasingly sophisticated in their approach to technology and data-driven tools that engage Generation Z. Managers are exploring ways to help this generation gain confidence, reduce stress, and problem solve. Diversity and inclusion is a larger focus for leaders, not only because it is the right thing to do, but because the positive impact on innovation, creativity, and even profitability.

Gen Z-ers have an edge because of their technical savvy, which makes them exceptionally prepared for an automated, digital workplace. But, they know the world of work will continue to change, and they want to stay ahead of the curve. A recent survey by Bright Horizons found that 90% of respondents expect automation to impact their industry, and many are returning to school to future-proof their jobs. It should be no surprise, then, that today's youngest workers are naming employer-provided education programs as one of their most desired benefits, second only to healthcare.

Gen Z-ers are graduating into the longest sustained economic boom in United States history -- they know that employers are desperate to find talent with the capacity to fuel their continued growth. And they have made it clear that they will not exchange their talent on the same terms as previous generations. They are willing to put in the work to continue upskilling throughout their careers; they are prepared to offer unprecedented levels of creativity and critical thinking to their employers. But they are demanding investments in return. They don't just want to be a cog in a machine -- they want to know that their work is valued, that they will continue to advance, and that their efforts are making a broader impact on the communities they live in. Companies who focus now on building sustainable, engaging workplace cultures will be positioned to reap the full rewards of the next generation.
