U.S. President-elect Donald Trump announced he has chosen former Republican Senator Kelly Loeffler to head the Small Business Administration.
“I am very pleased to nominate business leader and former U.S. Senator Kelly Loeffler, from the Great State of Georgia, to serve as Administrator of the Small Business Administration (SBA),” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
Loeffler served Georgia in the Senate from 2020 to 2021, appointed to finish Sen. Johnny Isakson’s term when he retired.
Prior to her tenure in the Senate, Loeffler was a businesswoman.
She spent three-decades primarily in financial services, her website notes.
“Kelly will bring her experience in business and Washington to reduce red tape, and unleash opportunity for our Small Businesses to grow, innovate, and thrive,” Trump said in a statement.
Her husband is Jeff Sprecher, a billionaire who founded the global stock exchange, Intercontinental Exchange. She worked for his company as an executive before going on to head the cryptocurrency company known as Bakkt.
According to her LinkedIn, Loeffler founded two conservative political organizations: RallyRight and Greater Georgia.
Last month, Trump stated that Loeffler would also co-chair the organization planning his inauguration.
