Whether you are in the office, at home, or out about in the community, you deal with people and all different types of personalities regularly. Some people rub off on you and you walk away a more positive, uplifted person. Others, on the other hand, have the opposite effect. Some people tend to view the world and it's difficulties as unnecessary obstacles and let them hinder their happiness, thus resulting in a negative and critical attitude.

So, the question is: How do you deal with negative and critical people without letting it affect you? Here are a few examples on how to help you successfully deal with those people who continually wish to drag you, or anyone else in the room, down with them in their pool of negative and critical attitudes.

1. Be confident

If you are not confident in who you are and why you are able to find joy in this life, then letting pessimistic feelings from others wash over you will eventually start having you question why life really is good. In other words know what you are thankful for and what is important to you.

2. Know the truth

Some things in life are just hard, and at times warrant feeling sad or disappointed. This is okay. Letting it rule your life is not. Know the truth and what is an acceptable amount of time to let something bother you. Letting those feeling stick around too long will only prolong your negative feelings, thus allowing it to become a habit. A bad habit I might add.

3. Know what is a big deal and what isn't

Losing your job is a big deal, the fact that gas jumped 2 cents is not. Life is full of ups and downs, but knowing that and being able to expect the peaks and valleys will help you be able to laugh off the somewhat "silly" things that seem to dampen other people's days very easily. Don't let someone who complains about every little inconvenience in life get you down.
