"I'm too busy." It's so easy for those words to come popping out of our mouths. There is so much demanding our attention! Our careers, work, school, and families are all vying for a piece of our lives... but are you too busy? No, you're not. Here's why.

Slipping through the cracks of our busy lives are those things that seem to suck all of our free time away. Obviously, our families and our jobs are important... but sometimes those social media sites, that video game, or that one television series you love can eat up more time than we think.

In July 2014 Facebook's creator Mark Zuckerberg said in a conference call that "the average U.S. consumer spends 40 minutes on the social network each day." In May 2016 the number jumped to 50 minutes as reported by the New York Times. The term "binge-watch", though coined in 1995, is heard everywhere, used to define the long hours someone has spent watching episode after episode of their favorite television show. A recent study released by Nielsen that measured how we are consuming media detailed that Americans watch an average of more than five hours a day. Wow is all I can say.

If we cut only our use of social media and TV in half every week, think of how much time that could give us! It would save us over 20 hours a week to do the math for you. That's 20 hours to learn a new skill, time to start that side business, cook a healthy dinner, or help a your child with their important school project. It's time you can use to get ahead.

So it's time to change habits. It might be hard to cut down on these things, but you won't regret it. "I'm too busy" will be something others say. The amazing thing is that you will feel better about yourself and how much you can accomplish. You will feel a since of accomplishment.

Now that I have time, I'm going to go take drum lessons. I have a dream of becoming a rock star at 46. I hope my neighbors don't mind.
