You often hear someone accusing another of being 'too emotional' in the workplace.

It's not the feelings or emotions that are too much. It's the individual's reaction to their own feelings that overwhelms those around them. People who don't know what to do with their feelings, might be more reactive and lead those around them to conclude that simply having feelings is bad or unproductive.

In this sort of environment, people working with a reactive person might feel a need to suppress their own feelings because they don't want to mirror this reactive person's energy. Sooner or later you have a team of people who are afraid to be in touch with their feelings and a stagnant work environment is born.

It's vital to any organization - business or family - to create an environment where it is safe to feel and explore. Exploration is the key to innovation and growth.

Feelings have good information to process. You simply need to learn how to hold space to feel and receive the information they have for you including: intuition or gut feelings, creative strategies or ideas, questions and doubt, discomforts, and a variety of other micro pieces of information that could be used to improve a product, process or service.

A leader who can access their feelings, feel them, process them and receive the information the feeling might have will be able to communicate their findings to their team. 

Their team will have feelings about the leader's findings and if they too can feel their feelings, process them, and receive the information their feelings will have, the team can now work in a fluid environment together in a continuous stream of progress, growth and innovation.

There is no such thing as having too many feelings. It's simply about learning to access them, process them and lead those around you to do the same.
