Every year I create my annual gift guide for the professional world. It's my answer to the nagging holiday question of "What do I get my boss/colleague/assistant/client/ "insert business relationship here" for the holidays?"
As questions around the appropriate gift kept arising, what started out as a mostly tech-related gift guide turned into so much more.
One particular audience segment which seems to boggle the best of us is what I refer to as the "girl boss" audience.
Maybe the "girl boss" in your life is your actual boss. Maybe it's your colleague who has always had your back, or maybe it's a friend who has been working hard to get her start-up off the ground. The definition of girl boss has evolved to represent more than just a female entrepreneur. It has come to stand for the very ethos of hustle, heart, and taking a stand.
Here's my 2018 list of best holiday gift ideas for the female rockstar in your life.
For the Jetsetter:
Since the jet-setter in your life can never have too much chic luggage, consider the following high-quality pieces: Florentine Weekender or the Alto Paolina shoulder bag by Dooney & Bourke, Leather Duffel Bag or a chestnut Leather briefcase by Ghurka.
TSA style carry-ons? G-Ro Multitasker with plenty of storage will fit overhead or under the seat, and it's just as easy to roll as the original G-RO bag. Looking for a backpack? Check out the Nomatic which comes with a built-in shoe compartment. Also, Baubax, which isn't a bag but instead a multipurpose travel jacket that among other features comes with a built-in eye mask and an inflatable neck and footrest. Need a tote? Check out Martha Stewart's canvas tote in olive green.
When organization is a must: The Goal Getter journal gift set from the Knack which comes with a phone bank that doubles as a compact mirror; ReKonect notebooks which are magnetic and let you swap pages; MOO hardcover notebooks (from the company which is known for their high-end business cards); and a Duchess Meghan Markle favorite, the STOW Tech Case, where your digital goods go on the left and the analog notebook, passports, and cards go on the right. Looks splendid in Amber Orange.
For the Aspiring Instagram Influencer:
When fashion and being in style is the number one priority, check out: The Gale and Hayes Clutch (sure to match many an outfit) and the Rituals Advent Calendar which aside from giving a beauty surprise each day (from almond oil to shampoo) also photographs beautifully in the background. Dermalogica is also celebrating with their own beauty advent calendar. Looking for a literal statement piece in apparel? Check out Vibrate Higher t-shirts (the brand name says it all) paired with Kut from the Kloth heritage jeans - made in the USA. For a statement scarf, try a cashmere and silk scarf by Cinzia Rocca.
When the backdrop matters: Chocolate good enough to eat and showcase? Check out Vosges truffle box by SimplyChocolate, and the Cire Trudon Rose Gold Intermezzo candle by Trudon which smells as amazing as it looks.
When they make tons of insta-story videos: SMOVE mobile will be their new best friend, as a telescopic stabilizer which adjusts to any size smartphone and ensures no video is shaky.
For the C-Suite Leader:
When the office is their second home, consider: Hashtag bookends (how creative!) and the Elmer Picture frame set (made in marble and brass) by Paynes Gray; a beautiful cascading Pothos plant by Leon and George to add nature to any space; a FluidStance The Plane Cloud which feels like walking on air and provides just the right amount of in-office movement - even in the tightest of spaces.
When appearances matter: Help them dress for the job they want, not the one they have with MM.Lafleur. Check out the Morandi sweater and the Angelou shawl because we all know the office never gets warm enough! Also, a signet ring from Brook & York and engravable cufflinks from Jewlr.
When coffee is always a priority: Check out Joe Coffee Company for a variety of coffee lover gifts, and the perfectly wrapped Oxford box which comes with Artisan chocolates and a classy linen-notebook by Mason and Market.
When they want to change the world: Consider something from Olivela where 20% of every purchase goes to support a just cause such as education for kids in refugee camps.
For the Beauty Maven:
When makeup is their jam: Subscription box BoxyCharm partners with well known cosmetic brands from IT to Tarte to curate the best and you can choose how many months they deliver; GoodJanes lashes and a three-way lash mirror and stand is cruelty-free and efficient.
When they love hair and skincare: The Best of Green Beauty Box by The Detox Market and Odacite Paris to LA serums; Virtue hair care gift sets for every hair concern (from frizzy to volume); and if perfume is their love, check out Dans Ma Bulle by Carven and the iconic Kate Spade Walk on Air.
For the Homebody:
When they love cozy everything: Staheekum cozy shearling slippers are perfect for the home office, the kitchen, and everything in between; Elemental Bath Salt trio by Lather for detoxing and relaxing. Looking for a great throw? Try Splendid's chunky knit throw and Therapedic's weighted blanket exclusively at Bed, Bath & Beyond. Throw in (sorry, couldn't help it!) one at-home spa facial treatment by COPPER+CRANE for a perfectly cozy gift.
When they love to cook and entertain: Eat Clean Meal Prep for gluten/msg/sodium free seasonings and some surprisingly fun bright colored kitchen utensils; Domenica Fiore Olive Oil, the most award-winning olive oil, for the EVOO lover; Green Chef (owned by HelloFresh) food subscription is perfect for the keto/paleo/vegan friend who loves cooking...with efficiency; SodaStream which turns tap water into a carbonated fizzy delight; and Giant Jenga which can stack up to five feet and perfect for when friends come over. Want it to be festive? Get them a holiday wreath from The Bouqs Company.
Here's to you being the best gift giver this season!
