Running a small business isn’t easy. Sometimes, it helps to be around other business owners, and joining a mastermind group is a great way to do so. Popularized by Napoleon Hill in his famous book Think and Grow Rich, a mastermind is a group of individuals who gather regularly, either in person or virtually, to discuss important personal or business issues and get differing perspectives to help make the best decisions.

Why join or create a mastermind group? In addition to answering specific questions about challenges in your business, a mastermind can provide:

  1. Accountability. Your group members will help keep you on track.
  2. New ideas: The cross-pollination of like-minded people sharing their triumphs and disappointments can lead to new insights. Because you are in a safe and trusted environment, you allow yourself to be a bit more daring and vulnerable with your brainstorming.
  3. Camaraderie. Entrepreneurship is hard, and often we simply need someone who understands the challenges and can offer insight, ideas, and solutions.
