Paul English has started multiple successful companies, including Kayak.com, but he still has regrets. In his early days, he would get frustrated by colleagues who he perceived were not quick enough or smart enough. With more experience, he realized the importance of kindness. “Anger is a like a poison you take and expect another person to die,” he says. People remember how you make them feel. When asked about the insight he’d share with his younger self, he said, “You will have started five companies by the time you’re 50. You’d like to look back and realize that you’ve had good relationships all along the way. Relationships you start in your 20s can be very meaningful in your 30s, 40s, and beyond. Act with kindness, and that will pay you dividends in the years ahead.”
