More and more entrepreneurs are turning to crowdfunding sites to raise money to bring their products to market. That's hardly news in 2015, but now we are learning more details about the demographics of the people who give money to fund the Next Great Invention--as well as crazy ideas like cat calendars, the perfect spatula, or a molecule scanner. 

According to data from Kickstarter and the Crowdfunding Centre, 64 percent of funders are men. More than half of all funders earn less than $50,000 a year, and their average age is 30. In total, 3.3 million people funded 22,000 projects, to the tune of a half a billion dollars on Kickstarter last year.
