Welcome to the 88th episode of the Inc. Uncensored podcast! This week's episode is hosted by Inc. editor Jim Ledbetter.
For her Inc. Uncensored debut, Danielle Saks, senior editor at Inc., talks about how female entrepreneurs are disrupting the feminine care and garment industries with lean startups reinventing the bra, the condom, and underwear. Startups like ThirdLove, Thinx and Sustain, all founded by female entrepreneurs, are making millions of dollars by selling better quality products designed by women, for women, directly to consumers. Find out how entrepreneurs like Miki Agrawl, Heidi Zak, and Meika Hollender are breaking Silicon Valley's glass ceiling.
Staff writer Will Yakowicz discusses Brooklyn-based incubator Refoundry, which hires and trains ex-convicts to make furniture from discarded materials. Once training is complete, the program incubates the former inmates to become entrepreneurs and helps members launch their own handmade goods businesses. Tommy Safian and Cisco Pinedo, furniture entrepreneurs, started Refoundry last year and have five members trained and currently making and selling unique pieces of furniture to clients. One of the program's members, James Eleby, has a long list of his own clients and is making custom tables for restaurants and individuals.
Lastly, the podcast crew interviews entrepreneur Rob May about how he built Backupify, a data backup company, and sold it to Datto.
