The company office is losing its position as the center of employees' work life. In a new study by IT solutions and services provider Softchoice, 78 percent of 1,700 employees across the U.S. said they value how technology enables them to work remotely. And 70 percent of employees in the study, titled "Death of the Desk Job," said they would quit their current job for a different company offering the opportunity to work outside of the office more frequently.
The need to retain employees isn't the only reason it's important to provide remote-working arrangements. The study, conducted from July through October of this year, also found that 62 percent of employees say they are more productive working outside the office.
