No entrepreneur has become successful by sitting around and waiting for their dreams to come true. They had a plan, envisioned it and took action. But what does that mean, exactly? Different people do different things to become successful, and it's these habits that shape them into go-getters.
When it comes to successful entrepreneurs, they all seem to have a few things in common that make them stand out from the rest. If you want to adopt these habits, here are four ways to do it.
1. Set goals.
Successful entrepreneurs not only know what it is they want, but they also set specific and measurable goals for their business. It isn't enough to say you want to do something and keep it hidden in your brain. Remember that it's your goals that will lead you to results.
This means taking your goals seriously and turning them into writing or visual images, like a vision board. A Dominican University study found that people who write down and visualize their goals have a higher success rate than those who don't.
Write your goals down somewhere you can see them every day: on the fridge, by the front door, on a whiteboard in the office. Place them in big letters as a reminder to yourself that you're committed to being successful and going after what you want. If your goal is to earn a million dollars, write it down. Seriously.
2. Early to bed, early to rise.
Not all of us love waking up before the sun is out, but many entrepreneurs have a habit of rising early. Waking up earlier gives you more time in the morning to be mindful, consider your schedule for the day, exercise, read or do whatever else you need to accomplish.
For example, I have a habit of waking up around 4:00 a.m. every morning for optimum productivity and to better prepare for the day ahead of me. This wasn't always the case, though. To train myself, I first had to practice waking up earlier than I usually would. Once I was able to regularly rise at the same time in the morning, I'd push it back further to wake up even earlier. Doing this gives me more time to focus on what matters and ensures I'm able to get it done because it's the first thing on my to-do list.
The stillness of the morning allows you to relax and consider what you're grateful for in life. You feel refreshed and full of energy. This harnesses a positive attitude and gets you ready for the hard work ahead.
3. Pursue healthy lifestyles.
Some people like running. Others like sports. Some do yoga. Whatever method you enjoy to get your body moving, incorporate it into your everyday life. Why? Because a healthy lifestyle leads to healthy choices and increased productivity.
When your body doesn't feel good, neither will your mind, and you won't be motivated to get work done. We've all been there at some point. So, make it a priority to exercise for a block of 30 minutes every day. Some days can be for more laid-back activities like walks while others can include cardio and more extreme workouts that get your muscles aching in a good way.
If you're eating like trash, you're going to feel like trash. Implement fruits, vegetables and healthy fats into your diet and your body will thank you.
4. Plan the next day.
Make it a point to spend five to ten minutes each night creating a to-do list for the next day. Try to stick to no more than three main tasks, prioritizing them from most to least important. These are things that must get worked on and finished by tomorrow.
By planning your days in advance, you give yourself a mental break the following morning. You don't have to rack your brain trying to remember what things you need to get completed and what to do first and how to get it done. You simply wake up and look at your to-do list.
Former Apple CEO Steve Jobs had a closet full of the same blue jeans, sneakers and black turtlenecks. Why? The fewer frivolous decisions he had to make, the more time he had to make important ones.
Over to you.
Wondering how to emulate your favorite entrepreneurs? There are plenty of ways to go about it, but these are some of the best to get started. It takes energy, positivity, persistence and planning, but with good habits, you too can be the next successful entrepreneur.
